Bloomsburg Women's Basketball Defeated by Shippensburg, 57-50

BLOOMSBURG - Bloomsburg University's Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) scored 18 points but lost to Shippensburg University 57-50 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division women's basketball game Thursday night.
The two teams went back and forth in the early going and were tied at 9-9 after a three-pointer from Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) with 15:13 left in the half.. Shippensburg then went on a 13-6 run to grab a 22-15 lead with 2:44 to go in the half. The Huskies, though, held the Lady Raiders to no points the rest of the half, while hitting two late baskets to trail by just three at the break, 22-19.
Bloomsburg started the second half with five consecutive points from Gallagher to go in front 24-22 with 17 minutes. Shippensburg finally ended a seven minute scoring drought when Lauren Beckley scored with 15:13 to play in the game. The basket was the start of a 20-4 run for Shippensburg which pushed their lead to 14 at 42-28 with 9:23 to play.
Shippensburg grabbed its biggest lead of the game with 7:10 to play when it led by 17 and led by 13 with 3:29 to play, 50-37, when the Huskies mounted a comeback. Lauren Healy (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) scored six points for Bloomsburg in 13-4 run that cut the deficit to 54-50 with 23 seconds to play. The Lady Raiders, though, converted three of four from the foul line to pull out the seven point victory.
Along with Gallagher's 18 points, Bloomsburg got 14 points from Healy. Shippensburg, 10-8, 4-1 in the PSAC East, got 22 points from Beckley and 16 points from Michelle Metz.
Bloomsburg will travel to Kutztown Saturday for a 6:00 p.m. start.
